Interview by Shauna Harris
Free Ambition: Where are you from originally?
RA Marketing: "I was born in Portland, Oregon,
Seattle, Washington |
and
grew up in Seattle,
Washington."
Free Ambition:Who are some of the music artists that you
have worked with?

Trick Daddy and Trina |
Young Jeezy, Rocko,
Beenie Man, Wyclef Jean, Future, Mariah Carey( when I worked at Columbia)."

myself when I think back...a lot of hard work, but it
finally paid off.”

Free Ambition: How do you promote your clients?
RA Marketing: "Basically, we hit the club, promoting the artist, and make sure their CD's have a visual presence in the area. Getting the music played, and distributing the mix tapes building a following are also ways of promoting artists. We can get DJ’s to play song's, in places like
Blue Flame,Magic City,The Mansion, Onyx,
but it's got to be good music."
Free Ambition: How should an new music artist break in
to the entertainment business? What should they do to survive?
RA Marketing: "Make sure you have a good sound, watch
other performers on YouTube and practice, practice, practice. Show up
to as many open mics as possible, and blast a test link on the
internet to see the response. It really depends on how much money you
have to invest, but do it yourself first. You will build more value,
and later have more control in decisions made when negotiating a deal with a record
label."
Free Ambition: What do you think about the current
state of hip-hop?
RA Marketing: "Bad, a lot of garbage. Everything is
about drugs, or being a gangsta or pimp. You got rappers naming
themselves something close to another rappers name just to ride off
it. Riding off someone’s name won't make you successful. There is
way too much auto-tune, and not enough real material. Kevin Gates out
of Baton Rouge, LA is refreshing. But most is garbage. Most songs are not worth
listening to in my car."
“Dudes be trying to be Jay-Z on a
shoestring budget”
Jay- Z |
Free Ambition:Do you think that rap will survive as a
form of art for the next few generations?
RA Marketing:"White boys are going to take over, take
it in another direction. There is just not a balance to hip hop now,
and unfortunately kids hear the destructiveness in the lyrics.
Rappers don't consider that these days."
Free Ambition:What is your Style?
RA Marketing |
RA Marketing: "Army Fatigues, Army boots, Dickeys,
house shoes (LOL)! Whatever is comfortable. I shop where I get the
best deals!"
Free Ambition: Who inspires you?
RA Marketing: "My grandparents from both sides of my
family, my mother, brother, God, Russell Simmons, P. Diddy, Cash
Money."
Akon |
RA Marketing: "Akon, Future ( he's a great writer, always studying in the club), The Game, Kevin Gates,
Kevin Gates |
Public Enemy,
Tupac Shakur."
Tupac Shakur |
"I own the whole Tupac collection, which is played in heavy rotation in my car. There are a lot of cool songs out, but not many that are worth bumping in my car."
Free Ambition: Craziest experience?
RA Marketing: "Ooh wee...a lot of violence, people in
the industry getting killed, going off to prison. The music industry,
since I have been doing this, has escalated out of control."
Free Ambition:
What has been your best experience?
Young Jeezy |
RA Marketing: "Being on tour with Jeezy and Lil' Wayne
for 45 days. We left LA, and went everywhere in the South to promote
Trap or Die."
Lil' Wayne AKA Tunechi |
