AISSA TORRES

Free Ambition:

Where are you from?

Aissa Torres:

Queens, NY, more specifically, Floral Park. It’s like right on the border of Long Island,
so sometimes, I’m a Long Islandite, however you want to put it!

Free Ambition:

Where do you live now?

Aissa Torres:

Deltona, FL.

Free Ambition:

How old were you when you knew you had a unique talent as a vocalist?

Aissa Torres:

If my mom was still here, she’d tell you since I was 2 years old! But for me personally, I will say at 13 when I wrote my first song. And then maybe 16, for when I spit a rhyme in my first cypher.

Free Ambition:

What are some of the obstacles you have faced proving yourself in the music scene?

Aissa Torres:

Well, as a female especially, the music industry is very hard on appearance, sex appeal, etc. I had been overweight for most of my life until this last year when I started taking a more vested interest in my health. I lost over 70 pounds and with that, came increased confidence.
I also unknowingly inspired many people to get on board with changing their lives and have grown my fan base just by being who I am and showing that anyone can make a change in their life if they really wanted to. When people see that you are taking yourself seriously, then they respect you more as an artist and want to invest in you and your brand.

How did you and TNT (Tony “Tha Nasty Tone Williams") meet to create the Dynamic Duo?

Aissa Torres:

Music is what brought us together. Tony reached out to me in June of 2014 to do a remix to my song “Definition of Love”.

He saw my video for it on YouTube and connected with me through there. I had never done a remix before and I was really interested in doing it. We met a few months later in September to record it and while recording and just vibing in the studio, we realized we had an incredible connection with music.

After the session was over, we went out to eat and we were talking forever about everything from music to life. Although we didn’t realize it at the time, we knew that there was something magnetic and dynamic between us. We started collaborating more on ideas, “musicating” is how I like to term it, and from there, the rest is history!

Free Ambition:

The Friday Freestyle is hella entertaining...how did you and TNT come up with it, and which freestyle is your favorite?

Aissa Torres:

Yes! The Freestyle Fridays, which often end up on Sundays, and we like to blame each other for that! Haha! But, honestly, it started one day in April of 2015 when I hit record on my phone while we were driving and encouraged him to freestyle with me. Tone was a little hesitant at first because he never really did anything like that on social media before. But people latched on right away, started commenting, liking, and sharing it!

I think people like it so much because we’re so opposite in personality, but we have such a unique chemistry that it makes it fun and entertaining for people to watch. We decided to do the videos every week and it became a hit. Because of this, we have connected with many people in the industry and have established a strong following. Some of our biggest fans are in the Philadelphia area and we have also heard feedback from a member of an old school hip-hop group who said they look forward to our freestyles each week.
My favorite freestyle is “THE BATTLE” where we did it to Big Daddy Kane, The Man The Icon! It was by far the best, in my opinion, because we had so much fun battling each other. I love the attitude and the challenge that Tone gave me. Plus a lot of people said I won so I like to remind him of that from time to time. Haha!

Where can your fans purchase the new hit “You Wanna Dance”?

Aissa Torres:

My single can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, CDBaby, anywhere you can buy music online!

Free Ambition:

What is the best part of being in the BDE family?

Aissa Torres:

The best part is knowing that your management team truly believes in you and supports your music. I know that my manager, Donnell Chandler, not only cares about my music, but he cares about me as a person and wants to protect me and make sure that he takes care of me and the whole family. I am very blessed to be a part of this team and I am thankful to God every day for them and for this opportunity.

Free Ambition:

Does your music have a message to your fans?

Aissa Torres:

Yes, all of my music does. Every song is carefully written and addresses all kinds of subjects from love, to loss, to feeling good about who you are, to encouraging single moms. It’s about how you feel about something you’re passionate about, and about the dreams you’ve longed about.

Free Ambition:

What was your favorite performance? Why?

Aissa Torres:

I loved performing at Summer Krush Jamz in August of 2015. I had three child dancers and also performed with Tone for the first time for You Wanna Dance. For one of my songs, You Think You Own It (Grey Goose), I had a “dance battle” for the kids on stage. This one little girl came out from the audience and OWNED it and she put ALL of us in our place! It was so awesome to see and I loved how the audience reacted to her doing her thing on stage. We had so much fun that night!

Free Ambition:

Where have you performed?

Aissa Torres:

I have performed in Orlando, FL at the Abby, in Orange City at the Manatee Festival, in Deland at the Deland Original Music Festival, in Daytona at the Easy Speak and at Summer Krush Jamz. I am looking forward to performing in more venues all over the United States and outside of the country.

Free Ambition:

The experiences people are having with police brutality are slowly being addressed by celebrities...What do you think music artists, Black, White, and Hispanic, can do to draw attention to the Black Lives Matter movement and help make a difference?

Aissa Torres:

My parents taught me that we are all people, that we all had the same parts, but that we just have different packaging. I think that the Black Lives Matter movement is an important one and I feel that persons in authoritative roles, in positions of power, need to consider and listen to the concerns of the public. People in the music industry have a unique role because they have a fan base who listen to them and follow them and watch their every move.
Beyonce
Because they are in an influential position, especially with our youth, they have the power to do good, to bring awareness, and to make a difference. I truly believe that the lives of our youth can be changed dramatically, in a positive way, if given the proper information to make a difference, to make a choice. We need positive leaders who are about valuing life, valuing the impact that one life can make on society, valuing life in general to know that everyone's lives do matter. If music artists and celebrities would use their platform to promote awareness about this movement, promote education about the mission, then they can become a positive voice for the many who have none.

Free Ambition:

How are you currently promoting yourself?

Aissa Torres:

Social media is a major component to marketing and promoting. I make sure to stay active and relevant and use the Freestyle Fridays as an avenue for promoting my music videos, upcoming projects, and music.

Earlier in January of 2015, we were able to do an original track I wrote with K-Solo (Your Mom’s In My Business, Spellbound) called Hatin’ on Me. We recorded it at Deltona Records and it features TNT Tha Nasty Tone as well. We had a lot of fun recording that track and people can hear it on my Youtube channel. It will be coming out on my album this year.

I have also collaborated on tracks with Sarah Starchak (Piece of Pie, Sube el Radio, Cry Inside) and with JT El Intocable (I Wish It Didn’t Have To Be Like This, Sube el Radio)

Aissa Torres:

I miss my family and friends. I also miss the food!

Free Ambition:

What is your fashion style? Where do you shop?

Aissa Torres:

I LOVE heels, I love dresses and I love off the shoulder blouses and nice jeans. My favorite color to wear is red and I find a lot of my outfits at Dillard’s and Macy’s.

Michael Kors is usually my go to for outfits and Vince Camuto for shoes.

Free Ambition:

Who inspired you back in the day to be successful in life?

Aissa Torres:

My mother has always been such a strong, independent, never stop, always keep going, kind of person. What an incredible role model. She inspired me to be the best at whatever I wanted to do in my life. She inspired me to continue to have drive and ambition and to never give up. My mother was the most encouraging and most ambitious and incredibly inspiring person I ever met. If I could be half of who she is, it would be an honor. She was an incredibly passionate and classy lady. I miss her greatly.

Free Ambition:

Who is your favorite music artist? Why?

Aissa Torres:

I love, absolutely LOVE and admire Missy Elliot. She has overcome so many obstacles throughout her career and she is such an incredible, dynamic performer, with so many great lyrics, she can dance, she’s fun, she looks like she is having fun on stage all the time, and she seems so genuine and real.

I love everything about her and it would be a dream to work with her one day. This has been one of my goals since I first started listening to her. Praying that one day it will happen. And if it does happen, I pray that I can speak, never mind sing or rap!
