Free Ambition:  You have been in the industry since the 90’s, what are some of  the lessons you have learned as a young entrepreneur?
DJ Jelly: Always research your craft. Approach your craft fearlessly, but research and get a lawyer to help you along the way, especially if things have potential to erupt.
Free Ambition: What projects are you currently working on?
DJ Jelly: Currently I’m DJing on V103 in Atlanta (The 9’oclock Mixtape) Thursday nights. I consult people, travel state and world wide as a DJ  and co-owner of the music site AsTheWorldSpins.com

On the 1's and 2's

Free Ambition: What is unique about a shopping experience at Big OOMP record stores? What would bring a music lover there, instead of buying downloads?

DJ Jelly: The Big Oomp store is located in the legendary S.W.A.T.S. It’s a down home southern black neighborhood. The customers are friendly and a lot of known artists such as T.I. have walked the concrete of our store in their early beginnings. At the Big Oomp store you’ll always find the up coming street artist of the south. You can call us the Hip-Hop Starbucks. Artists old and new congregate here you never know who you’ll see. Plus Classic DJ Jelly and Southern style mix CD's are on deck!

Free Ambition: Tell us about the mission behind Big OOMP Records?

DJ Jelly: To provide the world with honest music. Big Oomp Records represents as the foundation and model for all Atlanta Hip-Hop labels.

Free Ambition: What can we expect from Big OOMP Records in the future?

DJ Jelly: More production, and our new artist Jay-Tez .

Jay-Tez

Free Ambition: The Hip Hop industry has changed a lot since the founding fathers of the 80’s and 90’s; do you think it’s headed in a positive or negative direction? Who are the artists out there that are staying true to the Hip Hop culture?

DJ Jelly: Popular Black music now is horrible. There is a tremendous lack of substance, and the sound quality is the worst with a few exceptions that I could probably count on one hand.
Kendrick Lamar

The new Kendrick Lamar album excites me! M.A.A.D. CITY has the basic elements of street life, great stories, banging beats and an artist that is believable in his journey through his coming of age narrative. Good kid M.A.A.D. city shows that having quality Hip-Hop music can still win in the mist of all this fraudulent carbon copied hype that occupies the charts.

Free Ambition: Where are you from?
DJ Jelly: U. City, St. Louis Mo.

Free Ambition: I know you currently reside in Atlanta, but do you see yourself living in another city? If so where?
DJ JellyAustin,Texas.

Free Ambition: How can people follow you?
Free Ambition: Who have you worked with?
DJ Jelly: Any one who is huge in Atlanta both R&B and Hip-Hop.

Free Ambition: Who inspired you?
DJ Jelly: God.
